Short and Wide

Short and wide -- an apt description for me, for sure, but tonight I'm musing on image size, not body image.

Have you ever watched the Landscape as Muse show? This CBC production features 30-minute profiles on various artists; as I was perusing the lineup on the Documentary Channel, the episode profiling photographer Thaddeus Holownia caught my eye. What also caught my eye, as I was watching, was his choice of large-format equipment and the size of his photographs: 8 inches high and 20 inches wide.

So the show ended and I immediately fired up Photoshop to try an 8x20 crop. Just yesterday I had been messing about with a lily photograph so I decided it would be subject to my newest experiment. Results, above. Yes, I had a little texture fun as well.

My next experiment with this size will be, I think, some black-and-white architectural shots. Thank you, Mr. Holownia, for the inspiration.

Our weekend: Revisiting a bakery we used to patronize years ago

(yes, the Eccles Cakes were delicious, as were the Danish pastries).....

 

 

Discovering a small Eastern European deli just steps from the bakery,

where I bought headcheese and ham (I love both, the Captain does not).....

 

 

 

And then there were the cars, too.

 

 

Cold

Soulful? Or soulless?

I lean towards the latter. I photographed these stone cold faces three years ago, on the grounds of a local treasure, The Guild Inn. I blogged about that photographic walkabout way back when; you can read that post HERE.

I need to return and scope it all out again. But not anytime soon. I am feeling quite punky and suspect I'm coming down with a spring cold. Monday, I was fine. Yesterday, I felt off. And today...still not normal. No outdoor adventures for me until I am better.

Luckily, The Guild Inn is just a short drive from my home. Once these germs have been beaten down and banished from my body, all I need is a decent day, weather-wise, and I will return to seek out these faces once more. Perhaps they won't appear so stern and soulless to me this year.
